Raiding Silwan Secondary School and requesting its director as well as the director of the Elementary School for interrogation
The occupation forces raided on Monday morning Silwan Boys Secondary School in the neighborhood of Ras Al-Amoud in Silwan under the pretext of looking for stone-throwers. They also requested the school’s director as well as the director of the Elementary School for interrogation at Salah Eddin Street police station.
The secretary of District Committee for students’ parents in Silwan, Issam Abbasi, explained that Israeli forces raided on Monday morning Silwan Secondary School and stormed into classrooms looking for a child who threw stones.
After raiding the school, the police requested the school’s director, Saleh Al-A’war, and the director of the Elementary School, Samer Al-Ghoul, for interrogation at Salah Eddin Street police station.
Issam Abbasi denounced targeting schools in the neighborhood of Ras Al-Amoud as the forces continue to be stationed near the Schools’ Street which includes 9 schools, kindergartens and has more than 5 thousand students of all ages. He confirmed that the daily presence of occupation forces in the area deprives students from studying in a peaceful environment and prevents them from having a smooth day at school; it also obstructs and disrupts the flow of the educational process.
Abbasi explained that the Israeli forces are deployed in the Schools’ Street every morning and conduct search operations on many students resulting in a state of fear among them. They also randomly issue traffic tickets to vehicles causing heavy traffic jams and thus delaying students from being in their schools on time.
Abbasi appealed for all students not to give the Israeli forces the chance to provoke them and disrupt their education and asked them to stay away from the police provocations in the Schools’ Street. He also expressed the students’ parents’ committee concern about the safety of students.
