An inspection visit to Gate of Mercy Cemetery and Wadi Hilweh Neighborhood in Silwan
Dr. Wasfi Al Kilani, Executive Director of the Hashemite Fund, Professor Abdullah Al Abadi, director of monitoring Jerusalem and Aqsa Affairs in the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, and lawyer Ahmad Rwaidy, representative of Islamic Conference Organization in Palestine visited Gate of Mercy cemetery that is adjacent to Al Aqsa Mosque and Wadi Hilweh neighborhood of Silwan.
The delegates were accompanied by the staff of Wadi Hilweh Information Center-Silwan and activists from the town.
The staff of the Center spoke about the recent Israeli violations in the cemetery of Gate of Mercy, where burial in parts of it have been prohibited by the occupation under the pretext that they are public gardens and pathways, and about the attacks of the occupation forces during funerals and how they besieged them.
The staff of the Center and the activists of the town explained the suffering of the residents of Wadi Hilweh neighborhood due to the ongoing Israeli excavations under their homes since 2007 which led to landslides and cracks in the neighborhood facilities and streets.
The staff displayed video reports produced by the Information Center to the delegates about the cracks in the houses of Wadi Hilweh neighborhood. As well as another video report about Madaa Creative Center which targets women and children in the village of Silwan. The report focused on the Madaa Center’s activities and various achievements.
