The Israeli Supreme Court gave the public prosecution until Sunday to respond to transferring Martyrs’ bodies to the “cemeteries of numbers”.
Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud from the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission said the Supreme Court responded on Thursday night to the urgent appeal he had submitted on Wednesday in which he requested to issue a decision to prevent the Martyrs’ bodies from being sent to the “cemeteries of numbers”. In its response, the court gave the prosecution and Israeli police until Sunday to respond to the appeal.
Lawyer Mahmoud explained that he asked the Supreme Court to issue a temporary order to prevent the Israeli authorities from burying the Martyrs in the cemeteries of numbers until the next hearing scheduled in September.
The Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, had issued a decision on Wednesday night not to release the bodies of two Jerusalemite Martyrs to their families and to bury them in the cemeteries of numbers, and use this for negotiating with Hamas movement to take back the Israeli soldiers detained by them in Gaza strip.
Israeli media said the Israeli Minister approved the request of the Minister of Internal Security Gilad Ardan, to bury two Jerusalemite Martyrs in the cemeteries of numbers in order to use this to negotiate with Hamas movement to release the Israeli soldiers detained in Gaza. This comes in response to the decision of the Israeli cabinet at the beginning of this year not to release the bodies of people that carry out attacks against Israelis and that are members of Hamas.
According to the Israeli statements, the bodies recommended not to be released are the bodies of Musbah Abu Sbeih from Silwan who carried out a shooting in October 2016 in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood while the other body belongs to Fadi Qunbar from Jabal al-Mukabber village who carried out a run-over attack at the entrance of the village last January.
