November 30, 2017

Settlers assaulted on Thursday night a Jerusalemite woman and her daughter while they were passing through the -Sharaf neighborhood (Jewish Quarter) in the Old City of Jerusalem. The two females were injured with multiple bruises.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center reported that a number of settlers assaulted Asma’ Shyoukhi, 53, and her 17-year-old daughter Raghad, and beat them with belts and a metal piece and insulted them, causing them bruises.

Shyoukhi explained to the Information Center that she was walking with her daughter in Al-Sharaf neighborhood (Jewish Quarter) in the Old City while heading to their house in Silwan when nearly 15 settlers between the ages of 14-16 years attacked them. They cursed and insulted them and severely beat them using belts and stones. One of them trampled her with an electric bicycle causing Asma’ to fall on the ground. Also, one of them attacked them with a piece of iron, and threw trash at them.

Shyoukhi said: “A group of settlers and tourists were in the area and one of them called the police that arrived and arrested me and my daughter while the settlers managed to flee and none of them remained in the area.”

Shyoukhi continued: “While being detained at Al-Qishleh police station in the Old City of Jerusalem on charges of assaulting settlers, I asked the interrogator to check surveillance cameras in the area of the assault. And indeed, footage showed that we were assaulted, and we filed a complaint against the aggressors."

Shyoukhi family took Asma’ and her daughter to the hospital and found to have multiple bruises.
