Occupation police arrest six young men from Bab Al-Rahmeh Cemetery after confronting settlers’ prayers
On Sunday, Israeli occupation forces arrested six Jerusalemites from Bab Al-Rahmeh Cemetery, adjacent to the eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center reported that the occupation forces stormed the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahmeh and arrested six Jerusalemites. They are: Jawad Siam, director of Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Khaled Al-Zeer, Eyad Jaber, As'ad Kash’am, Motassem Khalayleh and Mohammad Odeh. They were taken to Lions Gate police station.
Regarding the incident, Jawad Siam said after his release from the interrogation center that two settlers broke into the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahmeh and carried out their prayers with the protection of members of the Israeli police, taking advantage of the young men in the cemetery who were doing cleaning works.
He added that the Israeli occupation police provided full protection to the two settlers despite violating the sanctity of the dead. Verbal altercations broke out inside the cemetery and then the police arrested the young men.
Siam said that the Israeli police transferred Khalid Al-Zeer and Eyad Jaber for interrogation at Al-Qishleh police station in the Old City of Jerusalem, while the rest were unconditionally released; the police seized the mobile phone of Siam.
The information center added that the settlers storm the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahmehalmost on a daily basis and perform prayers between the graves. Recently, a group of settlers broke and smashed some of the tombs during their prayers and under the protection of the police.
