A decision to evacuate a property in Silwan for the benefit of settlers
The Israeli Magistrate Court issued a decision to evict Sumrein family from its property located in the neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh in Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the pretext of being owned by the Jewish National Fund.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center/ Silwan explained that the court gave Sumrein family 90 days to evacuate the property completely, while the family confirmed that they will appeal the eviction decision to the District Court in a new attempt to preserve it.
The information center explained that the family has been in conflict in the occupation courts since 1991, after an eviction lawsuit by the Israeli company "Himonta" - which is one of the companies of the "Jewish National Fund" - claiming ownership of the property.
Ahmed Sumrein, one of the owners of the property, explained that the Israeli occupation authorities transferred the ownership of the house in 1983 and considered it under the “Guardian of Absentees' property" after the death of the family's great-grandfather Mousa Abdullah Sumrein, claiming that the sons of Mousa are in Jordan, and he had no heirs inside the Palestinian territories. This happened without informing the family until the arrival of the eviction lawsuit in 1991, knowing that the family members live in the property and did not leave it.
The occupation authorities transferred ownership of the property from the Guardian of Absentee Property to the Israeli Development Authority, and then to "Himonta"company, which is trying to evict them from the property today.
The property of Sumrein family consists of 4 apartments where 13 people live, and is located within the tourist settlement outpost called "City of David" at the entrance to Wadi Hilweh neighborhood, overlooking Al-Aqsa Mosque from the south.
