Arresting 4 young men from the Old City of Jerusalem…fines worth 35 thousand shekels in Sheikh Jarrah
April 17, 2020

On Friday, the Israeli occupation forces arrested four Jerusalemites from the Old City of Jerusalem, and issued fines worth 35,000 shekels to 7 demonstrators against settlement in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Witnesses told Wadi Hilweh Information Center that the occupation forces were present in the Qanatir Khdair neighborhood in the Old City, and there were altercations between the people and the forces, and then they arrested Anas Marcasto, Wassim Taha, Mohammad Taha, and Abdel-Rahman Al-Sharbati.

On the other hand, the police surrounded the weekly demonstration in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in which 7 people from the neighborhood and Israeli left activists participated.

Saleh Diab, an activist from the neighborhood, explained that the police issued fines for the participants worth 5 thousand shekels each, stressing that everyone was fully committed to the prevention measures against corona virus, (i.e. the number of participants, the distance between them, and wearing masks).

Diab added that they will object the illegal fines, given that the demonstration takes place weekly and throughout the year against the seizure of homes in the area for the benefit of settlers, and there is no decision to prevent demonstrations during this period.
