June 21, 2020

The Da’na family continues to self-demolish its homes in Silwan following a decision by the court of the occupation municipality.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center/ Silwan explained that the brothers Firas and Iyad Da’na started demolishing their homes on Saturday in Ein Al-Lozeh neighborhood, using hand demolition tools, and they will complete the demolition process by using a bulldozer within the next two days.

The family explained that it was forced to carry out the demolition in order to avoid paying the demolition fees to the municipal staff and the accompanying police forces, which may reach 40,000 shekels.

The family added that it had built the two houses 8 months ago, and the occupation municipality issued a demolition order against it. Despite the fact that the family managed to freeze the decision during the last period and started licensing procedures, but the municipality demands demolition until the area is organized, and then rebuild in the event that the planning plans are approved.

The family explained that 13 individuals, most of them children, were homeless due to the unjust decision by the municipality against the brothers Firas and Iyad.

On the other hand, the municipality issued a decision to demolish the house of Mohammed Za’atra in the village Jabal Al-Mukabber south of Jerusalem.

Za’atra, explained that the court issued its final decision to demolish the house that has been in existence for 10 years.

Za’atra added that he has been trying to license the house since the demolition order was issued. He managed to freeze the decision over the past years, and a non-licensed building violation of 60,000 shekels was imposed on him, he was committed to pay it.

Za’atra explained that the municipality had given a deadline to demolish his house, otherwise its crews will implement the decision and he must pay 100,000 shekels.
