Abu Ta’a family self-demolishes its home in Sheikh Jarrah
August 10, 2020

The occupation municipality forced the Jerusalemite, Khaled Abu Ta'a, to self-demolish his house in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in Jerusalem under the pretext of building without a permit.

Abu Ta'a explained that he built a house near the family’s home for his son a year and a half ago, and he was surprised by the decision to demolish it. He was able to postpone and freeze the decision, until last month the court issued the final decision to demolish it and gave him a month to implement the decision, otherwise the municipality's mechanisms and crews will do so and he has to pay the demolition fees.

He said: "I helped my sons and family members to empty the house and demolish it, so there is no possibility of paying more fines.” He pointed out that he tried to license it but without any success.

Abu Ta'a explained that the occupation authorities confiscated a large area of his land and transferred it to parking lots, noting that his house is surrounded by buildings for institutions and the occupation ministries after confiscating lands from their owners in 1965.
