Occupation municipality forces the Dwayyat family to self-demolish part of its home
August 13, 2020

The occupation municipality forced the Dwayyat family to self-demolish part of its home in the village of Sur Baher under the pretext of building without a permit.

Mrs. Umm Abdullah Dwayyat explained that the municipality's crews stormed her house before Eid al-Adha, and summoned her husband Mohammad Dwayyat. At the municipality, he was informed of the necessity to carry out a demolition of an addition to the house, otherwise the municipality staff will do so, and he must pay 70,000 shekels as "demolition fees."

Dwayyat added that the addition, which is a "kitchen and corridor", has been in place since 2007, "when the family had to build to help one of their sick sons." About a year later, the municipality issued a decision to demolish it and imposed a building violation worth 25,000 shekels, and the demolition was postponed for a period of 5 years. Then the municipality forced them to demolish the building's roof, "immediately after the death of their sick son."

Dwayyat added that the municipality returned this month again, and issued a demolition order on the same building. They have to demolish the walls and remove the shades and wood that were laid after the demolition of the tile.
