Sentencing the child Ashraf Adwan for 3 years in prison
On Wednesday, the judge of the Israeli Magistrate’s Court issued a verdict of imprisonment and a fine for the 13-year-old Ashraf Hassan Adwan, from the village of Ezaryeh, east of Jerusalem, after he was convicted of “attempting to stab a female soldier at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque on 26/9/2019.”
Wadi Hilweh Information Center’s lawyer for minor, Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the judge issued a verdict to imprison Adwan in the “Yarka Institution” for a period of two years, “starting on Wednesday,” and thus his sentence is 3 years “since the date of his arrest”, and a fine of 5 thousand shekels.
Lawyer Mahmoud added that the child Ashraf Adwan was arrested a year ago from Al-Aqsa Mosque, and was subjected to continuous investigation sessions, and then transferred to the Yarka Institution in the city of Akko.
The child's mothertakes advantage of court sessions held in the city of Jerusalem, to be able to see her son and check on him in light of the circumstances that prevent him from visiting, "as the mother holds the West Bank ID and needs a permit to enter the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to the spread of the Corona virus, general closures and restrictions on visits, not to mention the long distance and its costs on the family.
She said: "I miss Ashraf and I miss him at home, he is the youngest of my children, and his father died when he was a baby (7 months). During his last detention, I was able to visit him only once inside the Yarka Institution.
Despite the arrest and distance from the family, the child Ashraf insists on studying inside the Yarka Institution.
