Demolition and displacing families in Jerusalem
The occupation authorities escalated the demolitions in the city of Jerusalem, while the District Court froze the demolition decisions of 83 homes in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, for a period of 6 months.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem stated that the Israeli municipality bulldozers demolished on Tuesday morning a two-storey building owned by the two brothers, Ramah and Ali Odeh, in Bi’er Ayoub in Silwan, under the pretext of building without a permit.
Shadi Odeh explained that the municipality demolished his family's two-storey building, an apartment on each floor, each with an area of 100 square meters. Seven people live in the two apartments.
Odeh explained that the construction has been in place for 4 years, and the family tried to license it, but to no avail. During the raid on Wednesday, the lawyer tried to extend the period of freezing the demolition decision.
In Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, members of the Obeidi/Al-Radaydeh family are staying in theirland, after they were forced to demolish their seven homes with their own hands, after all attempts to obtain a permit were refused.
Ali Obeidi explained that over the past few days, he and his brothers demolished their homes and moved the rubble, in order to avoid paying new fines and demolition fees to the municipality’s bulldozers.
Obeidi added that the first house was built about 15 years ago, then he built the houses for his brothers, and prosecutions began 10 years ago, and building violations were imposed on them, during which he tried to license them, but the final demolition decision was issued.
Obeidi explained that about 40 people were homeless after the demolition of their homes.
On the other hand, the District Court froze the demolition decisions of the houses in Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan until 10/2/2022.
The center stated that the court has frozen the demolition of the Al-Bustan neighborhood, with the exception of the facilities that fall under the "Kaminets" law, and this threatens about 17 facilities in the neighborhood.
