Pictures… Repression, arrests and beatings in Sheikh Jarrah
On Friday, the occupation forces arrested 4 Jerusalemites, while suppressing a sit-in in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in the yard of the Salem family's house, against the decision of "displacement and eviction".
The occupation forces assaulted and fired dozens of grenades towards Jerusalemites in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, including "women, the elderly and children", while they were in the yard of the "Salem family's house" in the neighborhood, to evacuate the place and prevent their presence and sit-in, and after the end of the Friday prayer as they headed to the land of the Salem family.
Ibrahim Salem explained that the officer demanded the evacuation of the land from those present and its owners for no reason. He said: “We tried to show the papers we had, but he refused, and we asked to go to the court. This land belongs to our house. Two days ago, settlers tried to confiscate the land and placed barbed wires around it in order to close it and prevent us from using it, but we confronted them, and today the forces suppressed us to prevent us from using the land.”
Salem added: "The forces assaulted the family members and those in solidarity with us, and forcibly removed them from the land. They randomly fired sound grenades, and one grenade at our house, causing panic to the children in the house, and the repression was renewed several times."
The occupation forces arrested the two young men, Mohammad al-Kiswani and Mohammad Ghatit, from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, while the photojournalist, Mahmoud Alayan, was injured after he was hit in the face directly and his glasses were smashed. He was transferred to the hospital to receive treatment after suffering a wound under his eye.
In the afternoon hours, the repression of the weekly demonstration was renewed in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, as the forces prevented the participants in the demonstration from reaching the land in solidarity with the Salem family, and assaulted them with pushing and beating.
Eviction threatens the Salem family from their home, under the pretext of ownership of the land by Jews, and the "Department of Procedures and Execution" issued a decision giving the family until the 29thof December to implement the decision.
On the other hand, the occupation forces arrested the youth Hamza Al-Jada’ and his young brother Najib from Al-Aqsa Mosque. The lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Firas Al-Jabrini, explained that the police released the two brothers on the condition that they be expelled from Al-Aqsa.
