Hours before a court session…a decision to release the body of Martyr Omar Abu Asab
December 22, 2021

The occupation authorities decided on Wednesdaymorning to hand over the body of the martyr Omar Abu Asab, from the village of Issawiya, to his family.

Mohammad Mahmoud, a lawyer for the Wadi Hilweh Information Center for minors, explained that he had received a call from the Public Prosecution to inform him of the decision of consultations and sessions between them and the Minister of the Army and the officers regarding “the body of the boy Omar Abu Asab”, as it was decided to hand him over to his family for burial, without specifying the day or place.

Lawyer Mahmoud added that the decision came several hours before the Israeli Supreme Court session, which was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, to consider the petition he submitted at the end of last month.

Lawyer Mahmoud explained that the prosecution asked him two days ago to postpone the "Supreme Court session", but he refused to do so, and accordingly the decision was issued on Wednesday to hand over the body.

Lawyer Mahmoud had demanded not to bury the martyr Omar Abu Asab, until the petition was decided upon.

The boy, Omar Abu Asab, was martyred, on November 17, 2021, by a settler’s bullet and the occupation forces in the Old City of Jerusalem.
