Continuous demolition…the Abu Kaf family demolishes its apartment…and the Alayan family demolishes a “barn”
January 9, 2022

On Sunday, the occupation municipality forced two families to self-demolish their establishments in the villages of Sur Baher and Issawiya, under the pretext of building without permits.

Sur Baher

The Jerusalemite Ibrahim Abu Kaf demolished on Sunday evening his house with his own hands, in order to avoid paying "150,000 shekels... the demolition fee to the municipality's bulldozers, crews and accompanying police personnel."

Abu Kaf explained that his apartment had been in existence for 11 years, and he tried to license it and froze the demolition decision, and a fine of 65,000 shekels was imposed on him, "which he will continue to pay even after his house is demolished."

Abu Kaf said: "After these years, the municipality issued the final demolition decision, and I was forced to implement it, pointing out that his family and the family of his son live in the house, and they are 7 individuals.”

Issawiya

The Alayan family demolished a barn made of "bricks and iron columns", in Issawiya, with their own hands.

The Alayan family stated that crews from the Ministry of Interior and municipality stormed the land of their son, "Fadi Alayan", and demanded the family to demolish and clean what is on the ground, immediately.

Fadi Alayan –a guard at Al-Aqsa Mosque - has been in the occupation cells since last month, when he was arrested as soon as he finished his work and left Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Continuous demolition

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem stated that 9 demolitions have taken place in Jerusalem since the beginning of year, 5 of which were carried out by their owners. The establishments that were demolished included houses, residential rooms, a medical center room, a barn and commercial facilities in Silwan, Jabal Al-Mukabber, Beit Hanina, Sur Baher, Issawiya, and Sheikh Jarrah.
