38 detainees since the beginning of Ramadan…Arrests and pursuit of young men in the area of Damascus Gate

On Wednesday evening, the occupation forces arrested 4 Palestinians from Damascus Gate area in Jerusalem.

The lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Firas Al-Jabrini, explained that the detainees are from Damascus Gate were: Hamza Alayan, Ahmed Awad, Mohammad Amira, and Mohammad Abu Mayaleh.

The Information Center stated that Ahmed Awad was arrested by the police, disguised in civilian clothes, by the "undercover unit", accompanied by the intelligence services, and was severely beaten during the arrest.

The forces also detained the young men inside the observation room at the entrance to Damascus Gate, checked their identity cards, and threatened to arrest the young men if they photographed police officers.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center stated that, since the beginning of Ramadan, "last Saturday", the occupation forces have arrested 38 Palestinians from Damascus Gate, Herods Gate, Nablus Street, Al-Musrara and the adjacent areas. Most of the detainees were released on conditions of expulsion from the above mentioned areas.

The center's lawyer, Firas Al-Jabrini, explained that the police had allocated a "special unit" since the beginning of Ramadan at the Al-Maskoubiya Police Station to investigate detainees from the streets of Jerusalem, as they are transferred directly to this unit after arrest.

On the other hand, the occupation forces arrested the boy Qusai Zaytoun after storming the Bi’er Ayoub neighborhood in Silwan.

On Wednesday afternoon, the forces arrested Rami Al-Fakhouri and Rashid Al-Risheq, after storming their homes in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The occupation authorities transferred Mu’tasim Hussein from Shu’fat refugee camp to administrative detention for a month and a half, and renewed the administrative detention against Shadi Halasa for a period of 4 months.

The occupation authorities released the head of the Jerusalem Prisoners’ Families Committee, Amjad Abu Asab, on the condition that he be deported from the Old City, Al-Aqsa and Damascus Gate for a month.
