The crews of the "Nature and Parks Authority" demolished on Tuesday, a warehouse and parking lot for the Abu Hadwan family in the Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in the town of Silwan, in preparation for the confiscation of the site to implement settlement plans.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem stated that the "Nature and Parks Authority"crews accompanied by the special forces stormed a property belonging to the Abu Hadwan family in the neighborhood, closed the roads leading to it, then stormed the warehouses and confiscated what was inside, then proceeded to demolish it using manual demolition tools.
The center explained that the warehouses consisted of "an arch under a bridge, with stone fences, bricks and iron doors at its entrances," and they were completely demolished.
The Abu Hadwan family clarified that over the past years, it submitted all papers confirming its ownership of warehouses and land since 1974, after expropriating parts of its land to build a street in the site.
The family added that they have lived in the property since 1957, and in the seventies of the last century, part of the surrounding land was confiscated "on the pretext of public benefit" and a street was built on the site, then they were pursued again on the site for the same pretext.
The family pointed out that in 2018, the Nature and Parks Authority demolished parts of the warehouses in an attempt to confiscate them, and the family headed to court, through which they were able to reuse them, but on Tuesday the demolition process has taken place again.
The family explained that the occupation authorities confiscated the contents of the warehouses, "tables, chairs, stalls, refrigerators, and others."
The occupation forces beat and pushed the residents around the property, and demolished a tent erected at the site.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center clarified that the demolition process that took place on Tuesday is an extension of the "City of David settlement project" that was built at the entrance to the Wadi Hilweh neighborhood, to be the road to the area and from there to the Umayyad palaces.
In the afternoon hours, the forces returned and stormed the warehouses, as the members of the Abu Hadwan family were cleaning the remains of the demolition.
