Injuries, arrests, and confrontations in the streets of Jerusalem
October 8, 2022

On Saturday, the occupation forces suppressed the Palestinians in the streets of the city of Jerusalem, and the streets turned into a hit-and-run scene between the occupation soldiers and young men.

The occupation forces used sound bombs, rubber bullets and sewage water. They also pursued Palestinians with batons and assaulted them with pushing and beating. The repression continued in the streets of Jerusalem from noon until the evening hours.

The forces' suppression of the Palestinians began in the Damascus Gate area, then moved to Sultan Suleiman Street, Nablus Street, Al-Rashid Street, and Salah al-Din Street, with pushing and pursuit to evacuate the Damascus Gate area from those present, then the forces fired bombs indiscriminately in several areas, and used rubber bullets. In the early evening hours, the sewage vehicle flooded the city streets and sprayed wastewater towards the shops. It also stormed the main bus station and sprayed water inside it.

Injuries

Dozens of Palestinians, "women, boys, young people, and the elderly", suffered from severe suffocation from sewage, and some sustained bruises as a result of being pushed, in addition to injuries among children from fear, and injuries from shrapnel from bombs and rubber bullets.

The Red Crescent said that its crews dealt with 5 injuries in Jerusalem, "a rubber bullet wound, one case of suffocation and beating, and 3 injuries as a result of beating."

The Red Crescent indicated that some of the injuries were transferred to Al-Maqased Hospital for treatment.

Arrests

The occupation forces and intelligence carried out arrests from the streets of Jerusalem, and severely beat the detainees during arrest and detention inside the control rooms in the Damascus Gate area.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center monitored the crying, screaming and fear of children who were arrested and detained inside the control rooms, and pointed out that the forces deliberately held the detainees inside for more than half an hour before transferring them to the interrogation centers.

The center explained that the forces released some detainees after beating them and interrogating them inside the control room, including a young woman who was severely beaten and dragged to the ground, and then released after being held for about 15 minutes. As a result of the assault, the ambulance crews provided her with initial treatment.

Lawyers of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Firas Jabrini and Mohammad Mahmoud, explained that the forces carried out arrests from the city of Jerusalem, and among the detainees were: Hamza Idris, Amir Al-Tukhali, Awni Ajlouni, Omar Ja’abees, Osaid Hawass, Noureddine Al-Qawasmi, Karam Derbas, Ali Al-Qabbani, Abdullah Assaileh and Mustafa Al-Afifi.

The two lawyers explained that the police decided to extend the arrest of Hamza Idris, Osaid Hawass, and Amir Tukhali, to present them to the court on Sunday, while Noureddine Al-Qawasmi, Karam Derbas, and Awni al-Ajlouni were released, on the condition that they be deported from the Old City of Jerusalem for a period of two weeks.

The two lawyers explained that many of the detainees were not brought - until the late hours - for interrogation.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud pointed out that the police formed a special investigation unit last week in "rooms 4" in Jerusalem, to transfer juvenile detainees to it, which is similar to the unit that was formed during the month of Ramadan.
