January 2, 2023

On Monday evening, the Intelligence services released Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, head of the Supreme Islamic Authority and preacher of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This morning, the intelligence services stormed Sheikh Sabri's house in Al-Sowaneh neighborhood in Jerusalem, and handed him a summon for interrogation at the "Al-Maskobyeh Police” station. The interrogation continued for 5 hours.

The intelligence charged Sheikh Sabri with "supporting martyrdom operations by visiting the homes of martyrs' families, and inciting violence." Sheikh Sabri denied the charges.

Governor of Jerusalem

In a related context, the occupation intelligence forces stormed the house of the governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, and handed him a "renewal of the ban on entering the West Bank for the fifth year in a row."

The governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, has been placed under house arrest in his home in Silwan, since last August, after the Israeli prosecution submitted an indictment that included "17 violations of the decision to prevent him from entering the West Bank since the moment the decision was issued."

Since the Governor of Jerusalem took office in 2018, the occupation authorities have pursued him with repeated arrests, which amounted to about 35 arrests, raids on his house and summonses, and imposed several restrictions on him, most notably “house arrest in his place of residence in Silwan, travel bans, entry bans to the West Bank, and participation in any event in Jerusalem, and house arrest.”

Freed prisoner…Arrests

On the other hand, the lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem, Mohammad Mahmoud, stated that the police released the freed prisoner, Majd Mustafa, from the village of Issawiya, on the condition that he be deported from Issawiya for a period of 3 days, and not to participate in activities.

Lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud explained that the police arrested the freed prisoner, Mustafa, in front of the Negev prison, immediately after his release after serving 28 months, and transferred him to Salah El-Din Street police station for investigation.

The forces arrested a boy as he left Hutta Gate, "one of the gates of Al-Aqsa." The lawyer of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Firas al-Jabrini, explained that the police released the boy on the condition that he be deported from the Old City for a period of two weeks.

The police also extended the detention of the 14-year-old Mohammad Siam, from Silwan, until tomorrow, after he was summoned for interrogation.

Conditional releases

Yesterday, the police released the two Jerusalemites, Sami Fteiha and Ahmad Jamjoom, on the condition of house arrest for a week, banishment from Al-Aqsa Mosque, a ban on entering the West Bank, and a travel ban. They were arrested a month ago and subjected to harsh and long interrogations in the cells.

Yesterday, the intelligence services handed Sheikh Majed Al-Jo’beh a decision banning him from entering the West Bank for a period of 4 months.
