Shu’fat refugee camp – The young man Rami Hamouda under arrest and treatment
The young Jerusalemite, Rami Hamouda, is in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, in a difficult condition, after he was shot while he was driving his vehicle in the Shu’fat refugee camp in Jerusalem.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem stated that the young man is under arrest in the hospital, hand and foot tied to the bed with iron cuffs, noting that a bullet hit him in the stomach and exited from his back.
The story of the young man, Rami Hamouda, goes back to last Monday evening, when he was surprised by dozens of bullets fired at him directly while he was driving his vehicle in the Shu’fat refugee camp, during the storming of the camp by the forces and their deployment in all streets and alleys. Hours later, he was surprised to be charged with "attempting to run over soldiers in the camp", arrested while he was in the ambulance, and his vehicle confiscated.
On Tuesday, the Magistrate Court held an extension session in absentia for Hamouda, and extended his detention until next Sunday.
In regards to what happened with him, Mahmoud Hamouda - the father of the wounded young man - explained that his son was on his way to the bookstore to bring a cardboard for his 7-year-old daughter, to do her homework "a painting of English letters", and this coincided with the presence of the forces in the camp who fired bullets directly at his vehicle.
Hamouda added: "A private vehicle transported my son to the health center in the camp, and the ambulance came to take him for treatment in the hospital due to his difficult health condition at the time. We were on our way, specifically at the entrance to Anata Street. Large forces surrounded the ambulance and detained it for several minutes, forcing us to transfer him to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. An officer got into the ambulance and escorted us until we reached the hospital, during which he put handcuffs in his hand, pointing out that police vehicles surrounded the ambulance until it reached the hospital.
Regarding his son's health condition, he said that he underwent surgery.
The young man's father pointed out that he was able to obtain a court decision to see his son and check on his health, and indeed he was able to do so yesterday. He saw him from behind the window where he is receiving treatment, but today the officer who was present prevented him from visiting him.
Hamouda appealed to the residents of Shu’fat refugee camp to provide the family with all the surveillance cameras recordings of when his son was shot, in order to refute the police claims.
He posted on social media recordings showing that the forces heavily opened fire towards his son Rami, then his vehicle was confiscated.
