The Ghaith/Sub Laban family is facing the decision to "vacate their house" with steadfastness and remain inside it
June 12, 2023

The Jerusalemite Noura Ghaith / Sab Laban, 68 years old, and her husband Mustafa Sab Laban, 72 years old, face the decision to "evacuate their home" in the Old City of Jerusalem, with steadfastness and refuse to leave it voluntarily.

On Sunday morning, the period set by the "Department of Execution and Procedure" to evacuate the house ended, and now the family is anticipating the date of the execution, holding on to their right to be there, believing that "every minute inside the house is a victory," as Mrs. Noura says.

Mrs. Noura added: "This is my father's house... where I got married and gave birth to my children and raised them and we grew up... how can I leave my home?"

On Monday morning, the settlers addressed the "procedure department" with a request to obtain a decision to evacuate the family "due to their inability to carry out the evacuation on Sunday", and the settlers requested that no specific day be set for the implementation of the decision, but that it be according to "the time that is convenient for them". During the day on Monday, the forces raided the family home twice "morning and evening" and checked the identities and passports of those inside.

Regarding the property, the family explained that their house has been leased from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan since 1953 and is subject to a protected lease, and for the past 45 years the occupation authorities have been pursuing them in various cases, and in 2010 the "Galitzia Settlement Association" began pursuing the family under the pretext that the house is a Jewish endowment, and after years in the courts, the family's protected lease was terminated and they were evicted from the house.

The family pointed out that the Supreme Court had issued a decree in 2016, ordering the evacuation of the family members from the house, except for the parents "Noura and Mustafa", and therefore the court dispersed the family, preventing the children from living with their parents.

In 2019, the settlement association used a new prosecution against the family, where it delivered a "new eviction decision", under the pretext of not being permanently present in the house. Ms. Noura pointed out that during 2018 she suffered from "disc" pains and was unable to move and walk for 3 months and had to stay with her children during the treatment period, and despite presenting the medical documents, the Supreme Court rejected them and decided to evict the family from their home in favor of the settlers.
