Nearly 50 students from the liberated prisoners are not allowed to return to their school
The families of liberated prisoners “in the exchange deal” were surprised by the refusal of the school administrations affiliated with the “Ministry of Education and the Municipality” to return their children to school and have them back in classes, under the pretext of “the existence of a decision from the Ministry of Education not to take students back.”
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem explained that a number of families in several neighborhoods in the city of Jerusalem (Silwan, Issawiya, and Sur Baher) went to return their children to their schools, but they were surprised that the administrations refused to receive them, and the administrations asked the families to wait until the final decision on the case.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem added that approximately 50 prisoners were liberated in the exchange deal, or prisoners who were “arrested for several hours/days,” and their names were circulated not to allow the return to schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center learned that messages were circulated via the “WhatsApp” application to school administrations stating, “There are instructions regarding the released students... The students may not be returned to schools until further notice, and according to the age of the students, they were supposed to return to last school they attended before arrest, but due to the circumstances of the release, the “exchange deal,” instructions were issued by the Ministry of Education not to allow these students to currently return to their schools.
The center learned that a final decision has not been made on the issue of students returning to schools, as a session will be held that includes representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Municipality, and Intelligence, to discuss the matter.
The center pointed out that the occupation authorities released 54 male and female prisoners aged between 14 and 18 years during the exchange deal, most of whom were receiving their education before arrest in schools affiliated with the Israeli Ministry of Education.
