Day 68: Al-Aqsa Flood Operation in the city of Jerusalem
December 13, 2023

On the 68th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation, dozens of settlers carried out their raids into Al-Aqsa “on the sixth day of Hanukkah” day, and the police arrested two of Al-Aqsa Mosque’s guards, while the occupation municipality displaced 36 individuals after demolishing their residential building. Arrests, raids, and summonses continued in Jerusalem.

Al-Aqsa raids... and a continuing siege

297 settlers carried out their raids into Al-Aqsa on the sixth day of Hanukkah, during the morning and afternoon incursions periods, through the Dung Gate, the keys of which have been controlled by the occupation authorities since the occupation of Jerusalem.

The settlers performed their prayers during the storming of Al-Aqsa, and throughout the day settlers performed prayers at the gates of Al-Aqsa from the outside.

Since the seventh of last October, the occupation authorities have continued to impose a siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque, as their forces stationed at the gates prevent entry to it except for Islamic Endowments employees and the small numbers of worshipers, most of whom are elderly.

Forces also continue their deployment at the gates of the Old City.

In order to restrict the work of Al-Aqsa guards, the occupation forces arrested the two guards, Mahmoud Al-Safadi and Ihab Shehadeh, and after detaining them at the “Beit Elyiahu” police station, they released them.

Demolition and displacement

The Mubarak and Ghaith families were on a date with municipal bulldozers and accompanying forces to demolish their residential building, which they had been living in since 2016.

Zuhair Ghaith - one of the owners of the building, said that the municipality issued the final demolition decision at the end of last week, and demanded the families to implement the decision. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, bulldozers and municipal crews stormed the place, and after surrounding it, the demolition operation was carried out.

Ghaith explained that the building “consists of two floors with 4 apartments,” each apartment having an area of 110 square meters, and the municipality had imposed “building without a license” fines worth 800,000 on them.

36 people live in the apartments, including children, one of whom is special needs.

The occupation forces continued their raids on towns and neighborhoods in the city of Jerusalem, and carried out raids on some homes, and hours before dawn on Tuesday, large forces stormed the Shu’fat refugee camp and Anata.

Arrests and summonses of young men and boys also continued in the city of Jerusalem.
