Day 87: Jerusalem during “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation
On the 87th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood Operation”, the occupation municipality crews distributed notices and demolition decisions in the town of Silwan, while the siege imposed on Al-Aqsa Mosque and police deployment in the Old City continued, and various arrests and summonses were carried out.
Demolition notices and summonses for investigation
On the morning of the first day of 2024, joint crews from the police and municipal crews stormed neighborhoods in the town of Silwan, and carried out raids on several homes and commercial establishments, and issued demolition notices and summons to follow up with the municipality on some of them.
Eyewitnesses explained that municipal crews photographed homes, roads and streets during the raid.
Among the demolition notices distributed in Silwan, were notices in Al-Bustan neighborhood, which is in danger of being completely demolished for the benefit of the “King’s Park” project.
Al-Aqsa Mosque
The occupation authorities continue their siege imposed on Al-Aqsa Mosque, since the seventh of last October, represented by police stationing at all gates of Al-Aqsa, stopping all those arriving to it, to examine their identities, search bags and purses, and allow a small number of worshipers, women and the elderly, to enter it, while they continue to prevent young men from entering Al-Aqsa.
Settlers' raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque continued, and 129 settlers carried out their raids into the mosque.
Police deployment continues in the streets of the Old City, especially in the Damascus Gate area, all the way to Al-Wad Street. During this, arrivals, especially young men and women, are stopped, their identities are examined, and they are subjected to inspection.
As for the markets of the Old City, they are almost devoid of shoppers, due to restrictions, the permanent deployment of forces, and the harassment of the population.
The forces continue to prevent people from sitting or being present in the Damascus Gate area.
Raids and arrests
The occupation forces carried out raids into a number of towns and neighborhoods in Jerusalem, and carried out various arrests and summonses. Among the detainees was the mother of the martyr Ahmed Adeeb Alayan, and she was released after hours of arrest and investigation.
The young man, Alayan, was martyred last Thursday evening after he was shot at the Mazmoria checkpoint. His body was detained, and the forces prevented the establishment of a funeral home for the martyr or the presence and gathering of family members in their home.
The forces also arrested the freed prisoner, Omar Ghaith, immediately after his release from the Negev Desert Prison, and released him on the condition that he be deported from the city of Jerusalem for two days.
Ghaith was released after completing his 32-month sentence.
For years, the occupation intelligence has been arresting Jerusalemite prisoners immediately upon their release and the end of their sentence, and releasing them under conditions, the most prominent of which are: deportation from Jerusalem, prohibition of celebrations, launching fireworks, raising flags, and gathering during the reception.
