Day 90: Jerusalem during “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation
January 4, 2024

On the 90th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood Operation”, the occupation authorities continued to impose their siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the raids on neighborhoods and towns in Jerusalem continued.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center - Jerusalem explained that the occupation authorities continue to impose restrictions on the entry of worshipers to Al-Aqsa, preventing young people from entering it and allowing a small number of elderly people and women to enter it.

The center added that the police stationed at the gates of Al-Aqsa stop all those arriving there, and subject them to “searching, identity checks, questioning.” After going through these procedures, a small number of people are allowed to enter.

120 settlers carried out their raids into Al-Aqsa Mosque, through the Dung Gate, the keys of which have been controlled by the occupation authorities since the occupation of Jerusalem.

As for the Damascus Gate area - the public square and the terraces - the occupation authorities continue to prevent sitting in the place, since the seventh of last October, and the forces continue to deploy and stop those arriving to the Old City through it, especially young men.

During a tour conducted by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center staff in the Old City, commercial activity is almost paralyzed due to the permanent police presence at the gates of the Old City, and inspection procedures targeting young men and women, in addition to the lack of worshipers who are able to reach Al-Aqsa, where the Old City’s merchants depend on the visitors of Al-Aqsa.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center monitored the closure of all shops in Al-Qattaneen market, and most of the shops in Bab Hutta and Al-Wad neighborhoods, due to the lack of shoppers.

In another context, the occupation authorities deported the freed prisoner, Saleh Abu Al-Hummos, from the village of Issawiya, from the city of Jerusalem for 4 days.

Abu Al-Hummos was released on Thursday morning after serving his 20-month sentence.

The occupation intelligence arrests or summons the Jerusalemite prisoners immediately after their sentence ends and their release from prisons, and imposes on them conditions, the most prominent of which are “deportation from Jerusalem/or from the place of residence/preventing celebrations, raising flags and banners, and launching fireworks during the reception.”

The occupation authorities deported, Ahmed Alayan, from Beit Safafa, from his home in the village for 3 days.

Alayan was arrested on Monday and Tuesday, as the forces stormed the family’s land and bulldozed it and removed the olive trees from it, for the benefit of settlement projects. On Monday, they arrested 6 members of the family, including Ahmed Alayan, and after hours they released him, then returned and arrested him the next day.

The occupation authorities carried out raids into towns and neighborhoods in Jerusalem. This morning, they stormed the Al-Sowaneh neighborhood and the town of Al-Tur, while they carried out repeated raids throughout the day on Thursday into the Al-Jdaira neighborhood in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber, storming homes and shops and issuing random violations.

The occupation authorities continue to close the entrance to the Al-Jdaira neighborhood with cement cubes.

On Wednesday, the Al-Jdaira neighborhood witnessed confrontations that lasted for several hours, as crews and municipal vehicles stormed the neighborhood to demolish the Shqairat building.

Yesterday, the forces arrested 11 young men from the village, and extended the detention of Bahaa Shqairat, Mohammad Mashaal, Salah Shqairat, Qusai Shqairat, and Saif Al-Din Salhout until next Monday.

The young men: Wael Shqairat, Musa Shqairat, Amir Shqairat, Nidal Shqairat, and Mohammad Shqairat, were released on condition of two weeks’ house arrest and a cash bail of 2,000 shekels for each of them.
