Day 116: Jerusalem during “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation
January 30, 2024

On the 116th day of “Al-Aqsa Flood Operation,” the occupation municipality forced the Suri family to self-demolish their home, while it demolished a garage for the Hamdan family, and hundreds of settlers invaded Al-Aqsa Mosque while continuing to impose restrictions on the entry of Muslim worshipers into it.

Demolishing a house and displacing 5 people

The Suri family self-demolished their home in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber, under the pretext of building without a permit.

Jamil Suri - the owner of the house - explained that he built the house 7 years ago, and its area is 100 square meters, and he lives in it with his wife and 3 children.

The municipality began pursuing him with demolition decisions, violations, and demanding a building permit years ago. The family tried to work on issuing a license through engineers, and was able to freeze the demolition decisions through lawyers, until the final demolition decision was issued, without the possibility of postponing or freezing it.

The family pointed out that the “licensing” procedures were halted due to the inability to obtain the required documents from the official authorities due to the “state of emergency.”

The Suri family pointed out that they were forced to implement the demolition decision in order to avoid paying “new fines,” which are the “demolition fees” to municipal crews, accompanying forces, and bulldozers.

The family pointed out that their son Jamil will be forced to live in a room in his father’s house, due to the difficulties of finding houses to rent, especially since the demolition took place during the school year and his children’s schools are close to their house that was demolished.

Demolishing a garage

Municipality crews, accompanied by large forces, stormed the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and completely surrounded a car garage in the Ein al-Lozeh neighborhood belonging to the Hamdan family. Then bulldozers began the process of demolishing and bulldozing the place.

In the morning, municipal crews stormed the Al-Sowaneh neighborhood in the town of Silwan, and photographed the homes and streets in the neighborhood.

Settlers' incursions continue... and restrictions on the entry of worshipers

268 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in successive groups through the Dung Gate, guarded by the occupation forces.

The settlers held prayers for the dead and captured Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip. Among those who stormed Al-Aqsa were the family members of a soldier who was killed in the Gaza Strip. They paid tribute to him during the storming of the mosque, and his mother said during the prayer, “This war is for the Temple,” referring to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Meanwhile, restrictions on the entry of Muslims into Al-Aqsa Mosque continue, since the seventh of last October. The forces continue to be stationed at the gates of Al-Aqsa and search those arriving there, impose restrictions on entry, and prevent young men from entering.

Arrests and raids into towns and neighborhoods in the city of Jerusalem also continued.

In the evening hours, the forces stormed the home of the Bamieh family in the Al-Thori neighborhood in Silwan, and arrested the young man, Mahmoud Bamieh. The forces searched and completely destroyed all the contents of the house.

The occupation authorities renewed, for the third consecutive time, the administrative detention of the two young men, Rami Al-Fakhouri and Ziad Abu Hadwan, for two months. The forces arrested the two young men last October.
