Day 246 Jerusalem during “Al-Aqsa Flood” Operation
On the 246th day of "Al-Aqsa Flood Operation", dozens of settlers performed their prayers at the gates of Al-Aqsa from the “outside” and organized a night march, while the municipality forced Jerusalemite to self-demolish his residential building in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber. Confrontations broke out in the village of Issawiya, and forces attacked young men in the town of Silwan.
Prayers and march for the settlers
Over the course of Saturday, the settlers prayed at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque - from the outside-, formed dancing and singing circles, and deliberately provoked the people and merchants in the Old City.
In the evening hours, dozens of settlers organized a march on Al-Wad Street in the Old City and at the gates of Al-Aqsa on the outside. They performed prayers, and policemen were deployed in the Old City’s roads, closing some of them to allow the settlers’ march to pass and proceed.
In the afternoon, settlers organized a march on the “Bridge Street,” which connects the city of Jerusalem to the towns of Beit Hanina and Shu’fat, “north of the city.”
Demolishing a residential building and displacing 50 people
The occupation municipality forced Atta Salama Al-Sahouri, to self-demolish his residential building in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber, under the pretext of building without a permit.
Atta Salama explained that the building consists of 3 floors (6 residential apartments) in which approximately 50 people live.
He added that the building has been in place since 2002, and in 2006 the municipality began prosecutions, and in 2007 it issued the first demolition decision for the building, and since then, through the lawyer, the decision has been frozen and postponed “for a year or for 6 months,” but since last year he has not been able to do so. The postponement became for a period not exceeding 3 months, and “for each extension, approximately 30 thousand shekels are paid each time,” he explained.
Atta added that the last postponement was last March to the date of May 7th and attached to the decision was that a new postponement of the demolition decision will be issued in the event of submitting the license file and procedures, pointing out that a year and a half ago the license file was frozen.
He said: “In its latest decision, the municipality refused to postpone the demolition decision, and gave us only a month to implement the decision, and therefore I will implement it by force.”
He explained that the municipality imposed building violations on him, in addition to costs for the license, postponement of demolition, and the courts.
Night confrontations
Confrontations broke out in the village of Issawiya in Jerusalem, and forces stormed the village and fired sound bombs, gas bombs, and rubber bullets randomly.
The young men closed the streets and threw stones at the forces storming the village.
Raids
The forces continued to storm towns and neighborhoods in Jerusalem. In the town of Silwan, they stormed the Wadi al-Rababeh neighborhood and beat young men. The forces also closed the neighborhood’s intersections.
