The District Court Rejects the Diab family appeal, confirms decision to evict them from Sheikh Jarrah
The District Court rejected, on Tuesday, the appeal filed by the Diab family against the decision to evict them from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem.
A session was held in the District Court about 10 days ago to consider the appeal filed by the Diab family against the decision of the "Magistrate's Court" to evict them from their homes in favor of the settlers. Today, the District Court issued its decision to reject the appeal and approved the decision of the "Magistrate's Court".
The Magistrate's Court had issued the eviction decision in mid-April, and gave the family until July to implement the decision. Accordingly, the family filed the appeal, and a session was held in the District Court to consider it.
Diab pointed out that the family has been living in the homes for more than 50 years, and began its struggle in the courts to prove its right since 2009.
The District Court gave the Diab family until 20/5/2025 to implement the eviction decision.
The family confirmed that it will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.
The Diab family homes are located in the "Karm al-Jaouni neighborhood" in Sheikh Jarrah, and the residents have been living in their homes since 1956, under an agreement between the Jordanian government, represented by the "Ministry of Construction and Reconstruction" and the "United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees", to provide housing for 28 refugee families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in exchange for the families giving up their relief cards. One of the conditions was "paying a symbolic fee, and the ownership of the housing would be delegated after 3 years, but that did not happen.”
After the occupation of Jerusalem, several years later, the Jewish parties began to pursue the residents of Sheikh Jarrah and demand that they vacate their homes under the pretext of "land ownership." Jewish parties claim ownership of the land on which the residents' properties in the "Karm al-Jaouni" neighborhood in Sheikh Jarrah are located, and it was registered in 1972.
