Demolitions continue in the city of Jerusalem
Demolitions continued in Jerusalem, under the pretext of "unlicensed construction." Jerusalem residents say the municipality's licensing requirements are "unreasonable, difficult, and complex," accompanied by lengthy procedures that extend for years.
Yesterday, Alaa Alayan self-demolished his own home in Beit Safafa.
Alayan said the house was added to an old building, measuring 70 square meters, 15 years ago. At the end of February, he was surprised to find a demolition order placed on the house, despite having submitted a building permit for the new structure.
Alayan added that he has been trying to license the house since 2020 and submitted the necessary paperwork, but his request was rejected. He noted that the municipality issued him a violation for "building without a permit," for which he pays annual installments.
The municipality also forced him to demolish the columns that had been built to protect the old building.
This morning, municipal vehicles demolished a horse stable in the town of Beit Hanina, belonging to the Mheisen family. The stable had been in operation for 30 years.
Municipal crews also raided the village of Issawiya and removed a shed designated for horses after demolishing a barn last month.
