Ben-Gvir issues a decision to close the “Jerusalem Waqf” office
April 28, 2025

The Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir issued a decision to close the Jerusalem Waqf Fund's office in Jerusalem.

The closure order stated: "Under the law implementing the agreement regarding the Gaza Strip and the western area of the West Bank (restriction of activities), 1994, there is an activity being conducted by or under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority through the 'Jerusalem Waqf' Association without a permit or in violation of what was agreed upon under section (a) of the law."

Regarding Minister Ben-Gvir's decision, the Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement: "The decision to close the Jerusalem Waqf office is an aggressive step that falls within the occupation's systematic policy to undermine the Palestinian presence in the occupied capital."

The Jerusalem Governorate denied the allegations made by the occupation to justify the closure decision, stating: "The occupation's allegations are false and completely unfounded. The work of the Jerusalem Waqf and its fund is limited to social, humanitarian, and charitable work only, and has no connection to any political activity. Its goal is to support the steadfastness of our Jerusalemite residents and enable them to live with dignity in the face of the occupation's daily practices of oppression and ongoing violations."

The Governorate added: "Such blatant attacks would not have continued or escalated were it not for the international silence regarding the serious violations committed by Israel, the occupying power, of all international norms and conventions that guarantee the freedom of civil and humanitarian action."
