Demolitions continue in Jerusalem - Umm Tuba, Jabal Al-Mukabber, and Silwan
For the second day in a row, the occupation authorities continue their demolitions in the city of Jerusalem, citing unlicensed construction, despite the complex procedures for obtaining building permits in the city.
Umm Tuba
Israeli municipality bulldozers demolished the home of Mahmoud Omar Abu Teir, which had been in existence for 20 years. The family explained that they had submitted a request for a building permit, but the request was rejected on the grounds of "the lack of a zoning plan for the area." Although the family is working on preparing a plan, the demolition proceeded without waiting for the completion of the procedures.
Jabal Al-Mukabber
The Jerusalemite Adam Mohammad Shqeirat was forced to self-demolish his home to avoid paying exorbitant fines, including the wages of the occupation municipality crews and accompanying forces. The home, which measures 100 square meters, housed eight people.
Silwan
Bulldozers demolished a retaining wall belonging to the Bashir family. During the raid, Israeli forces escorting municipal crews and bulldozers fired rubber bullets indiscriminately in the area.
Anata
Bulldozers carried out a demolition and leveling operation yesterday, targeting residential rooms and fences.
The Jerusalem Governorate stated that the demolition included two residential rooms (caravans) provided by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as emergency assistance to shelter families whose homes had previously been demolished.
Jerusalemites stated that demolitions in Jerusalem are carried out under the pretext of building without a permit, while the municipality imposes procedures described as "complicated and lengthy" to obtain permits, making them impossible to obtain in most cases.
