Israeli municipality crews demolished two homes belonging to the Al-Aljawi family in the Bab Hutta area of the Old City of Jerusalem, leaving both families homeless and out in the open.

Abla Al-Aljawi explained that the settlers had previously tried to open a door through the family's home to access what they claimed was their "land." When they refused, they were surprised by a legal case against them, claiming that their home was "built without a permit."

She added that the settlers claimed that the home obstructed their access to "light and air," and that the Israeli municipality then decided to demolish the home as a retaliatory measure.

Al-Aljawi explained that the demolition affected her 25-year-old home, which consisted of three rooms and its facilities and housed four people. A heavy fine of 80,000 shekels was also imposed on her.

The two-bedroom home of Othman Al-Aljawi and its annexes were also demolished. The family confirmed that the demolition left them completely displaced and scattered, with furniture and belongings left on rooftops without alternative shelter.

This demolition comes just one day after the Israeli municipality demolished reinforced iron fences and leveled land in the town of Silwan.
