Occupation Municipality demolishes the Badran family’s apartment in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan
On Wednesday, the Israeli municipality demolished a residential apartment in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan that belonged to the Badran family.
Early in the morning, Israeli municipality, police, and special forces entered Silwan, surrounding the Badran family home in Al-Bustan and blocking access before municipal crews carried out the demolition.
Due to the difficulty of bringing bulldozers to the site, the crews used manual tools and a saw to carry out the demolition.
To avoid demolition fees exceeding 300,000 shekels, Mousa Badran started demolishing his own apartment. Despite a deadline at the end of the month, the municipality unexpectedly finished the demolition early and without notice.
The apartment was about 75 square meters and accommodated three family members.
Mousa Badran described the self-demolition as painful, explaining that tearing down his own home felt like losing a part of himself. Despite the loss and the memories linked to the house, he insisted his family would stay firm on their land.
