A decision to close “Nour Al-Quds” school in Silwan
The Israeli occupation authorities have decided to close the Nour Al-Quds School and Kindergarten in the Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood of Silwan, citing what they called "noise pollution" after a lawsuit was filed by neighbors.
The final decision comes at a highly sensitive time, as the first semester of the current academic year draws to a close and midterm exams begin, threatening the educational stability of hundreds of students.
The roots of the issue go back several years, when a "noise pollution" lawsuit was filed against the school. Despite this, the school continued operating throughout those years.
The Noor Al-Quds School and Kindergarten was established more than ten years ago and is considered one of the private educational institutions serving a broad segment of the area's population.
Ziad Al-Shamali, head of the Jerusalem Schools Parents' Committee, explained that the school serves grades one through nine and has approximately 700 students.
The occupation authorities have set January 11, 2026, as the last date the school will be allowed to operate, with a daily fine to be imposed if it remains open after that date. This decision comes amid a difficult educational reality in the city of Jerusalem, where neighborhoods face a severe shortage of classrooms, forcing many schools to operate in rented residential apartments to meet students' educational needs.
