After hours of delay, the occupation forces finally released Sheikh Issam Amira, leaving him in a remote area under the sun
Israeli occupation authorities released Sheikh Issam Amira, 75, from Ramon Prison today after he had served around 34 months—nearly two years and ten months—following his arrest in October 2023.
Although his family and children waited at the prison gate for his scheduled release, the prison administration intentionally postponed his release by several hours and then unexpectedly released him in a distant area away from the prison, without notifying his family.
Sheikh Amira's children discovered him after search, left in the sun and looking exhausted from the harsh conditions of his release.
Sheikh Amira, from the Sur Baher neighborhood in Jerusalem, is recognized as the oldest Palestinian prisoner from the city. He was sentenced by the occupation authorities on charges of "incitement and supporting resistance."
Right after his release, Israeli intelligence brought Sheikh Amira in for questioning at the Al-Maskoubiya detention center in West Jerusalem.
Sheikh Jamal Mustafa, a 70-year-old Jerusalemite from Issawiya, is still in detention following the release of Sheikh Amira.
In mid-October, occupation authorities detained Sheikh Mustafa and subjected him to severe interrogations before charging him with "incitement and encouraging participation in protests," which led to a three-year prison sentence.
Over the last three years, occupation authorities have repeatedly conducted extensive arrest campaigns targeting Palestinians on charges of "incitement," citing sermons, lessons, and social media posts. They have also filed indictments against hundreds of detainees.
