Silwan: demolition notices to residential establishments…stopping renovation works at the “sit-in tent”
Occupation municipality crews raided last Saturday the village of Silwan and distributed several demolition notices under the pretext of building without a permit.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center was informed that municipality crews protected by Israeli forces raided the neighborhoods of Wadi Hilweh, Ein Al-Lozeh, Bi’er Ayoub, Al-Bustan and Batn Al-Hawa in Silwan and took pictures of establishments as well as the entrances of the above mentioned neighborhoods. They raided several residential establishments and handed the owners demolition notices under the pretext of building without a permit; they requested some of them to head to the official departments at the municipality.
Requesting to stop renovation works at the “sit-in tent”
A member of Al-Bustan Committee, Mousa Odeh, explained that municipality crews raided the sit-in tent in the neighborhood of Bi’er Ayoub and requested to stop the ongoing renovation works. They also asked to remove the tile under the pretext of conducting renovation works without a permit. Nearly two hours later, they raided the tent once again to make sure the renovation works had stopped. He also explained that the tent was established in February 2009 after the Israeli authorities threatened to demolish Al-Bustan neighborhood to build national parks.
Demolition notices to residential houses, warehouses and walls
Wadi Hilweh Information Center explained that municipality crews handed Baha’ Adnan Zaytoon a demolition notice to his apartment in “Hosh Zaytoon - Bi’er Ayoub” where he lives with his family (wife and three children). His house was established two yours ago and he only moved-in nearly a month ago. The apartment consists of two rooms and their facilities.
Municipality crews also handed Mohammad Zaytoon a demolition notice to a wooden establishment in Bi’er Ayoub that he started building only two weeks ago.
A demolition notice was also handed to a family in Hosh Maragha in Bi’er Ayoub to demolish the walls around their land; they requested to lower the wall to only one meter.
Municipality crews also handed Salah Kash’am a demolition notice to his residential building in Batn Al-Hawa in Silwan. The building was established in 1994 and consists of three floors where each one is 150 square meters; five families live in the building.
Arafat Abu Al-Hammam also received a demolition notice to a container sitting on wheels and a room in Ein Al-Lozeh; they were set up two months ago and are used for storage.
