Silwan: Self-demolishing parts of a residential building in order to get a building permit!!!
December 8, 2016

The occupation municipality forced Mit’eb and Ghatit families to self-demolish parts of their residential building in the neighborhood of Al-Sweih in Silwan before resuming consideration of their request to license the building which consists of 6 apartments.

Ahmad Mit’eb explained that his family and Ghatit family started demolishing parts of their six apartments (outside balcony and some parts inside the apartments) following an order from the occupation municipality that conditioned them to execute the self-demolition and also ordered them to demolish the brick wall around the building as pre-requisites to obtain a building permit.

Mit’eb explained that the building was established in 2000 and they have been trying to license the building since then and have paid more than 600 thousand NIS in building violation fees in addition to lawyers and engineers fees to license the building and postpone the demolition. Mit’eb pointed out that they self-demolished parts of the building hoping to get it licensed.

Mit’eb added that the building consists of 6 apartments where nearly 50 individuals live.
