The occupation court orders to withhold the accounts of Dweik family in favor of the settlers
The Israeli Magistrate court issued an order to withhold the “saving accounts” of several members of Dweik family in Silwan as rent for using the land where their homes are established in the neighborhood of Batn Al-Hawa in Silwan claiming that the land is owned by :Ateerat Cohanim” settlement organization.
Zuheir Rajabi, head of Batn Al-Hawa committee, explained to Wadi Hilweh Information Center that the Israeli court approved the request of Ateerat Cohanim which required Dweik family to pay rent for the last 8 years for using the land where their house are established; the amount is 652 thousand NIS. It is noteworthy that there is a case still in court regarding the ownership of the land.
Rajabi explained that Ateerat Cohanim organization was able to obtain an absentia order without informing Dweik family or their lawyer.
Dweik family lives in an area targeted by Ateerat Cohanim where it seeks to confiscate 5200 square meters from the lands of the Middle Neighborhood in Batn Al-Hawa under the pretext of being owned by Jews from Yemen since 1881. The organization claims that the Israeli Supreme Court confirmed the ownership of the land to the Jews.
Rajabi also explained that Khamis Dweik, Elias Dweik, Mazen Dweik and his wife as well as Nabil Dweik were included in the order to withhold the funds.
Rajabi warned from requesting to withhold the saving accounts of Dweik family which could be applied to other families in the future.
