April 4, 2017

The occupation municipality ordered three Jerusalemites to self-demolish their homes in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina and the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber under the pretext of building without a permit.

Beit Hanina

Hafith Rajabi was forced to self-demolish his house that was built 15 years ago in order to avoid paying demolishing costs to the occupation municipality.

Linda Rajabi explained that the occupation police at Nabi Yaccoub police station requested her husband last week and informed him about the need to self-demolish his house or it will be demolished by municipality crews and he has to pay the demolition costs which could be between 200-250 thousand NIS.

Rajabi added that her family rented a bulldozer to execute the demolition of their 120-square meters house (3 rooms and their facilities) where 7 individuals live including four under the age of 18.

She explained that they tried to license the house during the last several years, and the municipality imposed a 100-thousand NIS fine on them which they paid. After postponing the demolition order several times, the municipality recently decided not to license it and demolish it.

Jabal Al-Mukabber

Fayez Abdellatif Ja’abees and his brother Suleiman were forced to self-demolish their homes in the village of Jabal Al-Mukabber south of Jerusalem following the municipality’s order under the pretext of building without a permit.

Fayez Ja’abees explained that both houses were built three years ago and are nearly 150 square meters; 16 people live in the houses including 12 children.

Ja’abees added that the occupation municipality issued a demolition order last November. They tried to license them but to no avail.
