December 21, 2018

Mohammad Hani Abbasi said that the Israeli occupation forces opened fire on their vehicle near Beit El settlement, north of Ramallah. The youth Qasem Mohammad Abbasi was shot by a sniper in the back and passed away.

"We were heading to Nablus, but the road was closed. We waited a bit. One of the police officers asked all the vehicles where they’re heading" said Mohammed Hani al-Abbasi, one of the eyewitnesses who were accompanying the martyr in the vehicle. “We were told that the road to Nablus was closed, and that this would continue for about two hours, and told us that there was a bypass road from Beit El.”

Abbasi added to Wadi Hilweh Information Center: “We went back to Beit El settlement, and, unfortunately, we missed the road and went inside the settlement. When we tried to return to the main street and get out of the settlement, we were pursued by soldiers or settlers, I do not know exactly. We couldn’t clearly see but they were not too far from the vehicle, and we continued driving and reached an area where we became between two settlements."

"We were surrounded from the front and back, and they shot at us. We did not stop and we continued to walk quickly. The glass of the vehicle was shattered and its tires were shattered," Abbasi told the information center.

Abbasi continued: "We were surrounded from the front and back, and they shot at us. We did not stop and we continued to drive quickly. The glass of the vehicle was shattered and its tires were damaged.”

Abbasi said that while trying to escape from the shooting, Mahmoud Abbasi shouted "Qasem…Qasem" where he was in a very difficult situation, during which they called the ambulance and told them about the injury and identified their location. The Israeli occupation forces stormed the vehicle and forced us to get out of it. Qasem was not moving and we asked them to bring the ambulance immediately."

Despite the difficult health situation of Qasem and the difficult psychological situation of the other young men, the soldiers assaulted them with butts of their guns, and demanded that Qasem be removed from the car. Mohammad said: "When we took Qasem out and put him on the ground, he was shot by a bullet in the back, and hit him directly, pointing out that he was sitting behind the driver's seat."

Mohammad added: “The police officers and the medical staff informed us of his death. About an hour later he was taken by ambulance. The Israeli occupation forces searched and interrogated us at the checkpoint, and we were taken to the hospital with ambulances for treatment where the police were waiting for us.”

Abbasi explained that they suffered bruises and convulsions in the limbs only, while Martyr Qasem was the only one hit by a bullet.
