Pictures- Funeral of Martyr Qasem Abbasi…suppressing and assaulting the mourners
Hundreds of Jerusalemites participated in the funeral processions of the Jerusalemite Martyr Qasim Mohammed Abbasi on Monday evening, where he was buried in the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahma, located at the eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center (Silwan) reported that the Israeli occupation forces assaulted the mourners and tried to prevent the funeral from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque, and blocked its wayseveral times, and closed the area from Lions Gate junction all the way to Al-Aqsa.
The center added that the young men followed the body of the martyr from Ras Al-Amoud Mosque in Silwan, and walked behind the ambulance and then carried him on the shoulders, chanting slogans in support of the martyr, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, condemning the crime of murdering him in cold blood. When they tried to head towards Lions Gate, the forces prevented them and the officer in charge demanded them to return the body to the ambulance and not to chant any of the slogans or he will not allow them to bury the Martyr in the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahma.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center explained that although the young men were forced to return the body to the ambulance and walk silently with it without chanting, the soldiers assaulted them along the path of Lions Gate heading towards Al-Aqsa. They also formed a chain at the door in an attempt to prevent them from entering Al-Aqsa, but then retreated and opened it due to the insistence of the mourners on their right to pray on the martyr inside the mosque.
The center added that the occupation forces, after entering the body to Al-Aqsa and praying on it, were stationed in large numbers along the road between Bab Hutta and Lions Gate, in addition to the intensive presence inside the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahma and the “Yusufiyah”; they also ascended several graves inside.
The center pointed out that the police tried to have the martyr buried in the cemetery of Al-Sweih in Ras Al-Amoud, near the house of the martyr, but the family refused, asserting their right to bury their son in the cemetery of Bab Al-Rahma.
The center explained that the occupation authorities prevented the mourners from raising flags and banners during the funeral.
The boy, Qasem Abbasi, was shot by the Israeli occupation last Thursday night at Beit El settlement north of the city of Al-Bireh, while he and three of his cousins were heading to the city of Nablus.
