A self-demolition in Silwan- arrests in Esawyeh
April 15, 2019

On Monday, the Jerusalemite Awad Mohammad Abbasi self-demolished his house in Al-Sweih neighborhood in Silwan following a decision by the occupation municipality under the pretext of building without a permit.

Abbasi explained to Wadi Hilweh Information Center that he demolished his "under-construction" house, after the Israeli municipality issued a decision to demolish it under the pretext of building without a permit. He said that the municipality staff stormed the house in last March several times and prevented him from continuing the construction works. At the beginning of this month, the municipality issued the demolition order.

Abbasi said that during the past few days he had gone to a lawyer and an engineer in an attempt to license the house, but confirmed that the area had no "construction line" and the demolition decision came into effect.

Abbasi said that he had to self-demolish the house to avoid paying a fine and the demolition fees for the occupation municipal crews.

He also pointed out that the municipality demolished his house in 2007 and he built it again last year to live with his family.
