A large-scale arrest campaign in the village of Issawiya…assaulted and blindfolded

On Saturday early morning, the Israeli occupation forces launched a large-scale arrest campaign against dozens of residents of the village of Issawiya.

The lawyer of Wadi Hilweh Information Center, Razan Jubeh, explained that the arrests have been continuing since dawn, and dozens of residents of Issawiya have been arrested. Among the detainees, Ibtisam Obeid under the pretext of "illegal presence in the city” because she holds the identity of the West Bank knowing that she has been married for 17 years and lives inside the village,but the occupation authorities have been pursuing her for several months and preventing her presence in Jerusalem.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center’s lawyer, Razan Jubeh, after meeting the detainees in the interrogation centers explained that the Israeli occupation forces assaulted them during the arrest and while detained in police vehicles and inside the detention center. Signs of assault were clear on the detainees, and the forces handcuffed them with plastic cuffs to limit their movement and also blindfolded the. Some of them were prevented from wearing their clothes during their detention, pointing out that the detainees were transferred to Salah Al-Din Street police station and Al-Maskobyeh.

On Friday, the village of Issawiya witnessed violent clashes in response to the martyrdom of Mohammed Samir Obeid who was shot by an Israeli police officer.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that violent clashes broke out in all neighborhoods and villages of Issawiya after the Friday prayers and continued until after midnight. Dozens of youths were wounded by rubber bullets "in the face and the lower and upper limbs", in addition to fractures and bruises.

During the clashes, the Israeli occupation forces randomly fired sound grenades, rubber bullets and tear-gas canisters, while the youths threw stones, firecrackers and Molotov cocktails.

The occupation forces arrested Saed Dari and Jamal Dari and detained them inside the village’s cemetery. They then took them to the interrogation center. Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli forces arrested them in front of their houses for no reason.
