March 15, 2020

The occupation police deported 4 Jerusalemites from the Old City of Jerusalem for two weeks, on the pretext of "violating Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem” after they distributed brochures on the Coronavirus.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center stated that the occupation authorities have chased and prevented the Palestinian Medical Relief Society from distributing awareness brochures about "Coronavirus prevention methods, symptoms, and home quarantine."

The center added that the occupation police arrested 3 relief volunteers while distributing posters in Al-Wad Street in the Old City of Jerusalem.

On Sunday, the police summoned Naser Jamjoum, the coordinator of medical relief activities, for investigation, and released them on condition of deportation from the Old City for 14 days.

Jamjoom said that the occupation police claimed that the distribution of educational brochures is a "violation of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem", especially since the leaflets carry the Palestinian flag logo.

Jamjoom confirmed that the brochures are to educate Jerusalemites about the virus and the logo it carries is the medical relief logo "a Palestinian civil society operating in Ramallah."
