Council of Church Presidents - cancellation and modifications to the Holy Week prayers due to Corona virus
March 30, 2020

The Council of Presidents of the Catholic Churches in the Holy Land announced amendments to forms of prayer during the Holy Week due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

In a statement, the council added that the vast majority of the planned prayers during the Holy Week will be modified due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus, except for the prayers that are celebrated inside monasteries and some holy places by a limited number of people (mainly some clerics) as that will remain the same. The vast majority of liturgical celebrations will either be reduced, postponed or cancelled, and many celebrations will be broadcasted live through various means of communication, especially televisions and social networks.

The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem announced the cancellation of the Palm Sunday procession scheduled for next Sunday, which is organized annually from the Monastery of Beit Faji in Al-Tur, to the Monastery of Saint Hannah in Lions Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.
