June 24, 2020

On Wednesday, the occupation municipality demolished 3 houses in Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without a permit.

Wadi Hilweh Information Center / Silwan explained that the occupation municipality's bulldozers carried out a demolition operation of 3 houses in Beit Hanina and Jabal Al-Mukabber, before holding the court hearing to discuss the demolition decisions, which was scheduled to be held on the same day.

Sharhabeel Alqam - the owner of the house in Beit Hanina - explained that the occupation bulldozers carried out the demolition of his house, despite a scheduled hearing session in the court at 1:30 p.m. on the same day.

Alqam added that he built his house two months ago, with an area of 120 square meters, where he and his family of 9 live.

In Jabal Al-Mukabber village, the occupation municipality's crews demolished the third floor of a residential building, consisting of two apartments, using hand-demolition tools.

Ra’fat Rabay’a said that the family was surprised by the occupation forces and municipal crews storming their home in the morning, noting that a session was scheduled to be held in the afternoon to discuss the demolition order.

Rabay’a said that the third floor has been in place for 25 years and is covered with bricks, and about a month ago the family started to renovate and renew only the brick. The municipality issued a "warning to stop construction", and the family followed up on the notice and had a session appointed for the same day.

He added that he and his family of 5 live in the apartment, while the second apartment was being prepared for his brother Mohammad to move in.

The occupation municipality's crews also destroyed 3 paintings from the walls of the Yusifiya Cemetery at Lions Gate in Jerusalem, indicating the restoration of the wall with Turkish funding several years ago.
