A Jerusalemite self-demolishes his home, and the municipality demolish the stairs leading to Lions Gate road
On Sunday, the Jerusalemite Mohammad Sanduka was forced to self-demolish his house in the neighborhood of Wadi al-Joz north of the Old City of Jerusalem, while the bulldozer of the occupation municipality demolished the stairs leading to the "Yusifiya Cemetery," which leads to the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
House demolition
Mohammad Sanduka explained that he proceeded to self-demolish his house after the occupation municipality refused to freeze or postpone the demolition decision, and demanding an immediate implementation of the demolition, otherwise its crews will do so on his expense.
Sanduka added that he and his family of 9 live in the house which he built 17 years ago, with an area of 120 square meters.
Sanduka explained that the municipality imposed on him a fine of 100,000 shekels, under the pretext of "building without a permit," and that he is making the monthly installments.
Demolishing the stairs
On the other hand, Mustafa Abu Zahra, head of the cemeteries committee in Jerusalem, explained that the occupation municipality demolished the lower part of the stairs leading to the Yusifiya Cemetery and Lions Gate road that leads to Al-Aqsa, in order to reach the Martyrs Cemetery to conduct excavation and bulldozing works and to start making a path for the "biblical garden" around the ancient walls of Jerusalem. When Abu Zahra and Hamza Hijazi, an employee of the cemetery, arrived to the sit, they stopped the work and municipality crews were prevented from entering the site.
