Occupation municipality forces two Jerusalemites to self-demolish their property in Silwan
On Sunday, the Israeli municipality forced Mohammad Ali Siam to self-demolish a facility “warehouse” in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan, under the pretext of building without a permit.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center-Jerusalem stated that municipality crews forced Siam to self-demolish the warehouse after giving him until Sunday to implement the decision, otherwise the municipality's mechanisms will do so and he will pay the demolition fee and fines to the municipality.
Siam explained that the settlers in the area recently threatened the family to bring the municipality to pursue them, and after several days the municipality inspector came and placed the demolition order on the warehouse that has existed for 20 years, and the family tried to freeze the decision and prevent the demolition but to no avail.
Mohammad Siam said: “Palestinians property get demolished, and they are prevented from building and expanding, and even the warehouses are pursued. On the other hand, we see the settlers building apartments in buildings that were leaked to then in Silwan, buildings that were originally threatened with demolition and built without a permit, but the municipality turns a blind eye and does not pursue the settlers and does not order then to demolish the unauthorized construction".
In a related context, the municipality forced Hamza Abu Saloum to self-demolisha room in Al-Thori neighborhood in Silwan.
Abu Saloum explained that the room has been in existence since 2013, and the municipality imposed on him a building violation of 27,000 shekels, and then another fine of 17,000 shekels, and he was committed to paying the monthly installments, and tried to license the facility and freeze the demolition over the past years, until the municipality insisted on demolishing it.
Abu Saloum added that he built the room for his son Jibreel- who has special needs - to be an outlet for him.
