The occupation municipality forced two families to self-demolish their homes in the Wadi al-Joz neighborhood in Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without a permit.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center-Jerusalem stated that the municipality forced the Jaber family to self-demolish two houses, and the Aramin family to self-demolish a house, in the Wadi al-Joz neighborhood, and forced "Aramin and Jaber" to implement the decision in order to avoid paying fines and demolition fees to the municipality's crews and vehicles, and not to damage the nearby houses in the event that the demolition is carried out with bulldozers.
Jaber family
Nader Hasan Jaber explained that the family demolished an apartment on the "upper floor", which has existed since the nineties of the last century, and his mother paid fines until she was able to freeze the decision until she dies.
Jaber added: “Two years after the mother’s death, the municipality came back and demanded that we carry out the demolition, and gave us two weeks for that. Indeed, on Saturday, we did that using self-demolition tools, but we were surprised by the municipality’s demand to demolish the apartment on the first floor as well within only two days, pointing out that it has been in existence since 1988 and has an area of 40 square meters.
Aramin family
The Aramin family self-demolished their house, in which 4 people live. Ismail Aramin explained that the court issued a decision to demolish his house without the possibility of appealing, about a year ago. The municipality came and then held a session and the decision was issued and gave the family until last August to implement it. Then, the family was able to postpone the demolition until the end of October, so the deadline ends in a few days.
The Aramin family clarified that the house had been in existence for 11 years, and the municipality had previously demolished a house for them in the same place, and the family reconstructed.
