Classification of the case of the prisoner Ahmed Manasra within the file of the “Terrorism Law”
The File Classification Committee classified the case of the Jerusalemite prisoner Ahmed Manasra under the “Terrorism Law,” and this decision will prevent the possibility of transferring the prisoner’s file to the “Early Release Committee / The one third Committee” to demand his release.
The defense team for the prisoner Manasra explained that the “Special Release Committee / Committee for Classification of the File”, issued its decision today after the session that was held last Sunday in the Ramle Court, and decided that the case of the prisoner Ahmed Manasra is a “terrorist act” as defined by the Israeli Anti-Terrorism Law. The committee rejected the defense staff’s claims that the file should not be categorized under the Terrorism Law.
The defense team said in a statement: "This decision is legally and constitutionally wrong, and it is a clear violation of the legal and constitutional foundations of the local and international legal system, especially the legal system related to children / minors."
The Jerusalemite prisoner, Ahmed Manasra, was arrested in 2015 and sentenced to 9 and a half years in prison. He was arrested from inside the "Pisgat Ze'ev settlement", which is several meters from his home, and was beaten and insulted by settlers, while his cousin, Hassan Manasra, was martyred.
At the time of his arrest, he was 13 years old, and because of the beating he was subjected to, he suffered a fractured skull, which led to a hematoma inside it. During the interrogation that lasted for several days, he was subjected to psychological pressures, most notably “deprivation of rest and sleep and an interrogation for long hours.”
After the investigations and his transfer to prisons, the prison administration deliberately isolated him from the prisoners, deprived him of visiting his family, and prevented him from completing treatment. He was suffering from severe headaches and was not presented to doctors, which worsened his health and psychological condition. Several months ago, a doctor said that the prisoner Ahmed suffers from psychological disorders.
In mid-June, the prisoner Ahmed was transferred to the Ramle prison hospital after his psychological condition worsened, and a week ago, lawyer Khaled Zabarqa was able to visit him in the hospital. The lawyer explained that traces of wounds appeared along the left arm of the prisoner up to the wrist, as well as traces of wounds on his right arm. Manasra did not communicate with the lawyer visually or verbally, and he seemed to show signs of illness and general exhaustion.
